United sign midfielder Payne on loan

Oxford United today signed midfielder Josh Payne on a month's loan from Doncaster Rovers.

Payne, 19, made two first-team appearances for West Ham before being released this summer.

He goes straight in to the United squad for tonight's Johnstone's Paint Trophy first-round tie at Aldershot.

Another loan signing, which only unsettles the teams relatively good and developing midfield.
Most of the teams in league 2 have big gritty defenders who need to be hassled by big tough strikers who can hold up the ball and make opportunities in attack.
I feel that Oxford strikers are sometimes too meek in attacking situations, and far to often get easily bundled off the ball.
Any big gutsy attackers out there Mr. Wilder?

so far our mid-fielder's have given our strikers 1 really good game where they supplied the quality ball that is needed for them to score (rovers) & hopefully this player might be the answer with more ''telling'' passes to our front players!...everyone assumes it's the strikers that are at fault for poor finishing but in reality if you '''watch''' the games so far our midfielders while looking pretty hav'nt really delivered!....people would do well to watch how many cutting balls have been played to the front players instead of knocking them!...no supply means very few chances!

Surely, it is a little early to panic isnt it? We have played 4 (in the league) and lost only once. The game we did lose was against the run of play as were two fo the draws where we came across an inspired goalkeeper in one game and struck the woodwork twice in the other. I would rather have lost one and drawn three than won one and lost three. The goals will come, and very soon, we will absolutely tonk someone.

Totally agree with Mandate Botley:-

Good to have skillfull pacey midfielders, but it's the end product we need, ie goals!
Goals come from strong strikers. I understand CW's point about the difficulty and cost of securing better front men, but remember what happened when we let Moody go. I think we need more varied options in attack. Div 2 defenders close down better and we don't seem to have the presence and punch at set pieces.
