SAM Deering is hoping the Oxford United fans get right behind tomorrow’s Youth Development Benefit game – to help bring on the next batch of talent.

Deering and Aaron Woodley are now permanent fixtures in United’s first-team squad after coming through the ranks.

Deering had spells at Chelsea and Charlton as a youngster, but found his home when he arrived at Oxford as a 17-year-old.

And he is confident that the Oxford United Legends v Celebrity XI game will capture the supporters’ imagination.

“I owe so much to the youth development system at Oxford,” he said. “I came in as a kid and was made to feel at home straight away.

“The whole set-up is designed to get the best out of you.

“Dexter Blackstock, Dean Whitehead and Sam Ricketts are just a few that have come through the ranks and gone on to play at the top level.

“I am very happy to show my support for what they do – and hope the fans turn out too.”

The United legends can call on the services of the likes of Joey Beauchamp, Paul Moody, Les Robinson and Milk Cup winners Les Phillips and Jeremy Charles, as well as manager Chris Wilder, chairman Kelvin Thomas and coaches Andy Melville and Mickey Lewis.

The entire United first team will also be there, taking part in a training session on the pitch when the doors open at 1.30.
