OXFORD United are back to square one again in a season of frustration, according to manager Pep Clotet.

A third successive home win was on the cards with the U’s 1-0 up with ten minutes remaining against a Bury side who had not scored a league goal for two months.

But George Miller and Harry Bunn netted in the space of three minutes to inflict a damaging 2-1 defeat.

Clotet acknowledged wildly inconsistent results had been the theme of the campaign.

He said: “It gets me back to those moments where we were starting to create a good momentum and then we lost or made simple mistakes because of a lack of concentration and then we’re back to square one.

“I understand it’s the first season and it’s never easy to get a good momentum.

“But it’s in my nature as a coach and a manager that I want the side to be as good as possible straight away.

“Sometimes I don’t give myself too much patience in this way to let the team grow.

“I want to play as well as possible, because I think the players deserve it.

“But now it’s about making them realise, getting them back together and improving to make sure those mistakes don’t cost results.”

While the defensive collapse late on was inexplicable, the U’s boss is well aware there are issues in both boxes.

After nicking the opening goal through James Henry, the hosts failed to put Bury under pressure.

Clotet said: “One of our biggest problems was we didn’t manage in the second half to hurt them more to get that second goal.”
