Oxford United are interested in signing Admir Bajrovic, according to reports in his native Sweden.

The 22-year-old striker plays for Östers IF, scoring six goals from as many starts this season in the Superettan, Sweden's second division.

But newspaper Smålandsposten is linking Bajrovic, who has international caps at under 17 and 19 level, with a move to Oxford United.

Pep Clotet worked at Malmo and Halmstad earlier in his career and has already signed a player from Sweden this summer, midfielder Ivo Pekalski.

With a year left on Bajrovic's contract, a move would involve a fee, with Östers reportedly valuing him at around £200,000.

If there is a move in the pipeline, United will have to work fast - the transfer deadline is at 11pm on Thursday.

It would also mark a change in approach, with Clotet suggesting last week after Kane Hemmings left for Mansfield Town on a season-long loan he was planning a quiet run up to the transfer deadline on Thursday evening.

He said: “We have plenty of options up front. I’m not really looking to doing many things now.

“It’s true that sometimes a good player becomes available at the end of the window, but I think in the long run it’s better to do your things before.

“Some teams are really keen on last-minute things, but normally it doesn’t work out well.

“At this moment in time, I don’t see any bargains."
