KEMAR Roofe says he would happily trade the individual accolades he has received in recent weeks for promotion at the end of the season.

Oxford United’s top scorer was named Sky Bet League Two’s player of the year at Sunday’s Football League Awards.

It came hot on the heels of a similar title in FourFourTwo magazine, while the forward was also named in the team of the year for the entire Football League.

Roofe has been thrilled to scoop the awards after quietly setting himself the goal of becoming the division’s best player in the summer.

But the 23-year-old, who is a doubt for tonight’s trip to Newport County with an ankle injury, would give up the lot in a heartbeat for the ultimate prize – going up with United.

“Definitely, I would swap my individual award for promotion right now,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter what we’ve done so far this season, it’s all about these next four games.

“Hopefully we can get these wins and get promotion.”

And while Roofe has been the one in the limelight, United’s humble No 4 wants to share it with everyone else.

He said: “I didn’t tell many people about it, but in my head it was a target and I’ve been able to achieve it.

“It’s down to everyone at Oxford and my teammates.”
