OXFORD United have called for supporters to turn out in force again on Sunday after reporting sluggish sales for their clash with Bristol Rovers.

More than 10,000 U’s fans packed out the Kassam Stadium to watch the terrific 3-2 win against Swansea City.

But demand for the game against Sky Bet League Two promotion rivals Rovers has been slow, with only just over 500 seats sold on top of season ticket holders.

It comes on the same day as the visitors sold their initial allocation of 2,100, with United making an additional batch of 300 available.

Darryl Eales, the U’s executive chairman, urged the club’s supporters to come out for what is another crucial game.

He said: “The backing was fantastic on Sunday, it was brilliant to see this place full and it quite clearly lifted the players.

“But I have to say I’m really disappointed that only 500 people have bought tickets for the Bristol Rovers game.

“In our eyes this match is even bigger than the Swansea game.

“Our priority this season is to get out of League Two and we desperately need the people of Oxfordshire to get behind us again.”

Michael Appleton, United’s head coach, said: “All the players have commented on how good the atmosphere was against Swansea.

“When we went a goal down you could feel the crowd lift the players to go again.

“The fans were incredible and we’d love this place rocking for all the big games we’ve got coming up.”
