Oxford United today completed the signing of winger Jonny Giles.
The 21-year-old has impressed enough in two trial games with the U's against Aston Villa and Southampton to earn his first professional contract.
Giles, who grew up in Windsor and graduated with a degree in physics from Durham University, spent the end of last season with Ashington in Northen League Division 1.
He admits it will take time to adjust to his new way of life, but is relishing the prospect.
"It was quite daunting the first time I stepped out with the rest of the lads, because you could instantly see their quality," he said.
"It will clearly take time to get used to training each day and improving my fitness, but I am confident I will improve all the time and can't wait."
He added: "I only played a couple of games for Ashington, but it certainly helped to try and adjust to men's football."
United head coach Michael Appleton said: "He is quick, has ability on the ball and has done really well in training so deserves his chance," he said.
