A minute's silence will be held at Oxford United before kick-off this afternoon to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire.

All matches in both the Football League and Premier League this weekend will mark the Valley Parade disaster, which left 56 supporters dead and hundreds injured.

It will hold particular resonance for U’s skipper Jake Wright, who grew up in Bradford and came through the youth system with the Bantams.

He said: “We used to do things every year when I was on the YTS (Youth Training Scheme) at Bradford.

“I know people who have been affected personally by the fire.

“I can’t believe it’s 30 years. I wasn’t born when it happened, but I can remember people talking about it when I was little.

“It’s one of those times when the whole football world comes together and supports the situation.

“When you’re from an area and something happens like that you feel a part of it.”

Oxford United are understood to have offered professional deals to youngsters Freddie Grant, Robbie Cundy and AJ George.

However, the U’s are yet to make an official announcement.
