MICKY Adams has called for his Tranmere Rovers players to keep their heads in tomorrow’s crucial clash at home to Oxford United.

A catastrophic loss of form has seen the Birkenhead side lose nine of the last 12 games to slip back to the bottom of the Sky Bet League Two table.

With just three games remaining, the club are on the brink of being relegated to non-league for the first time since joining the Football League in 1921.

It all stacks the pressure on Tranmere and Adams believes staying disciplined is hugely important.

He told the Liverpool Echo “There’s no doubt we need strong characters amongst the players now.

“We’ve to to keep two kinds of discipline against Oxford.

“One, in the way we play and keep our shape, try to limit Oxford to as few chances as we can.

“Two, we don’t get carried away with the emotions of the game.

“If we’re going to win the game we need 11 players on the pitch.

“We need to do the right things at the right time.”

The former Leicester City boss has also worked hard to ensure the players do not look beyond tomorrow’s game at Prenton Park.

He said: “Oxford is all we are focused on at the moment, not the other two matches that follow it.

“We are trying to make sure we don’t create a crisis of confidence in their own minds.”
