More than a dozen staff from Croydon’s eight McDonald’s restaurants spent Monday cleaning up the area.
They started in the Old Town and ended up in the car park at Addington Hills.
The litter patrol was part of the ‘Keep it Clean’ campaign being championed by Croydon Council and the Croydon Guardian.
Councillor Phil Thomas, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said: “McDonalds recognises that their customers don’t always act responsibly when throwing away their food wrappings and cups.
“I would like to see all fast food outlets follow their lead and set up litter patrols and litter picks.”
Alex Jegede, manager of the Church Street McDonalds, said: “Fast food restaurants often get the blame for litter, and that is why at McDonalds we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously.”
