SEAN Rigg says he has no regrets over joining Oxford United last summer ahead of tomorrow’s meeting with his former club, high-flying Port Vale.

The winger turned down a new contract at Vale Park to join the U’s last May.

Since then Micky Adams’s side have gone from strength-to-strength, helped by a change of ownership which has cleared their financial concerns.

Tomorrow’s visitors to the Kassam Stadium will arrive second in the npower League Two table and look virtual certainties for automatic promotion.

By contrast, even with a fantastic 1-0 win away to leaders Gillingham on Tuesday, United sit nine points adrift of the top seven.

But Rigg (pictured), who went through some worrying times at Vale, insists the move south was the right one.

He said: “I don’t think you should have any regrets, you make a decision at the time and that’s the right decision.

“I’ve got no regrets, it’s good to see them doing well and fair play to them, but I’m happy to be here and Oxford’s a good club.

“There was a point (at Vale) where we went a couple of months without being paid and obviously last season we were in administration.

“It goes to show it can quickly change, they’re second in the league and have a bit of money behind them.

“I think they are a few wins away from going up and they’ve deserved it because they have been consistent.

“It will be good to come up against them again, I’ve had a bit of banter with a few of them this week, I’m looking forward to it.

“They’ve said they will be putting in a few naughty tackles on me, so I better make sure I’m on my toes.”

Rigg has impressed for much of his debut season on the left flank with United before suffering a dip in form over the last six weeks.

The 25-year-old admits it has been an issue, but is optimistic that an encouraging display at Priestfield will spur him on for the remaining weeks of the season.

He said: “I haven’t been too happy with my performances over the last few games.

“It does happen and you’ve just got to keep your head down, get through it and take responsibility.

“I’m buzzing after the win at Gillingham, I feel like I put in a good performance and I’m sure I’ll be flying again now.”
