SAHARA Osborne-Ricketts thought Oxford United Ladies produced one of their best-ever performances to beat Newcastle, who play their league football a division higher.

Osborne-Ricketts, United’s skipper, was delighted to progress.

She said: “I was so glad we got the win in the end because the girls deserved it.

“We all worked hard as a team and I can’t believe we got the result.

“We had a few nervy moments but we came through, it’s incredible – I’m buzzing.

“That’s definitely up there with the best, nothing can top this at the moment.”

It was the first time the ladies had played at the Kassam Stadium and the gate of 733 was a lot more than the 500 the club were hoping to attract.

Osborne-Ricketts added: “The girls were talking after the game about how incredible the supporters were, so thank you to everyone who came out to support us, it means a lot.”

Manager Richard Blackmore added: “It was brilliant to see so many fans turn up.

“I’ve got to say thank you to everybody at the club who put a lot of effort in.

“The stewards and people in the ticket office gave up their free time so this game could go ahead.”
