Jake Wright visited RAF Benson ahead of Oxford United’s Military Day tomorrow. The U’s will be honouring the armed services at their game with York City, where representatives of all the county’s bases will be in attendance. S erving personnel are entitled to a free ticket if they come along in uniform.
The Abingdon Military Wives choir will be singing, with the Royal British Legion and Chelsea Pensioners also on show.
Wright, who once considered a career in the forces, said: “You can’t compare life as a footballer with the job that these people do. They are genuine heroes and it was a pleasure to meet so many people and talk to them about life on the base and their time in the military.”
