ONLY the diehard Oxford United fans are likely to make one of the longest away trips of the season to Fleetwood tomorrow, but there are plans to gather a sizeable travelling contingent next weekend.

For the last three seasons a fan-led Ultimate Support Saturday has targeted one home game to boost atmosphere with the help of specially-made banners and organised chanting.

The most recent was in November, when United won 2-1 against Northampton.

Now the plan is to launch Ultimate Support Away Day for the visit to Southend United on Saturday, February 2.

Supporter Joe Nicholls is hoping to pack out as many of the 2,000 seats in the away end at Roots Hall as possible.

He said: “Every season, it would be good to have one away game that we try to get everyone to come to and have a really good away day.

“The great thing about supporting Oxford United is we can go to away games in huge numbers, and it’s a great feeling to be a part of that.

“Whether it be by car, minibus, train or coach, we hope as many Oxford fans as possible will come to Southend.”
