Davis: I've moved on with Oxford United

Oxford Mail: Liam Davis says he has no attachment to former club Northampton Town Liam Davis says he has no attachment to former club Northampton Town

LIAM Davis drives past Sixfields on a daily basis, but the Oxford United defender says facing his former club tomorrow is no big deal.

The left back played almost 100 games in three seasons for Northampton Town before joining the U’s last year.

After missing the last two games with a hamstring strain the 25-year-old is in contention to start when the Cobblers visit tomorrow.

Despite facing his former employers, Davis will be treating it as just a routine fixture.

He said: “Last year because I was with them the season before there was a bit more emotion.

“Now I’ve lost attachment to the club, I’ve been here for a while now and I’m enjoying it.

“I still live in Northampton and I drive past the stadium every day, but it’s a new relationship, I’ve moved on.

“If the players and manager that were there when I played were still there then it becomes a bit sentimental, but it’s a different manager and squad so it’s a different place.”

United go into the clash in need of a result to improve their position in npower League Two after four games without a victory.

Davis acknowledges the importance of ending the run sooner rather than later, but for him the key is not to load the fixture with too much significance.

He said: “It’s a big game but we’re not going to put it up there as the biggest game of the season.

“We’re not going to put that pressure on ourselves, if we go in thinking ‘this is such a massive game’ then you’re going to be scrutinising everything you do when you’re on the ball.

“We’re just going to be looking at it as just another game and look to take it in our stride.”
