Rigg: Oxford United out to rediscover high tempo

A FAST start is top of Oxford United’s priorities tomorrow as they look to avoid a repeat of the disappointing performance on Tuesday night.

The U’s lost 3-2 at home to Dagenham & Redbridge, a result which ended an encouraging run of form.

The performance was alarmingly listless at times and the tone for was set by a below par opening spell, which allowed the Daggers to seize the initiative.

United have regularly opened up at a high tempo this season and Rigg wants to rediscover the habit.

He said: “It was tough to get ourselves going the other night.

“It was a slow start for the first 20 minutes, we couldn’t get the ball down or clear our lines and that was crucial to the final result.

“Hopefully on Saturday we put it right and start off quickly.

“Dagenham got in our faces when it should have been the other way round with us being at home.”

United had targeted this week, where they played at home twice in the space of five days, as a big opportunity to cash in and move up the npower League Two table.

Failure to get a result on Tuesday means tomorrow’s game takes on added importance to take maximum points.

Torquay, who will arrive in the top eight, should provide a far stiffer test than the Daggers.

The United squad had a scheduled day off yesterday scrapped to prepare for the clash and Rigg is desperate to bounce back.

He said: “The message has been to keep our heads up, keep going and get the win.

“Whenever you lose you want to put things right as soon as possible.

“There will be a bit of pressure on us, but I think overall we’re still looking forward to it.”

We're cunningly planning to start the match 'High Tempo' then? Brilliant! Why wasn't that idea put into practice against daggenham? Forgot, didn't think of it?? Where was the motivation?
I'll tell you, the motivation was non existent - For what reason? Good question, and we can only speculate the answer.

Whatever the reason, the results are down to the manager, his team, a near full squad of players, his players- and his team selection, formation & tactics. Conclusion, the manager is inadequate.
