Oxfordshire's Caroline Campion finished runner-up in the Women’s National Champion of Champions Singles at Leamington Spa.
The Banbury Central star saw her bid for glory dashed with a 21-13 defeat by Cleethorpes’ Amy Gowshall in the final.
Campion had swept aside Eastbourne’s Rachel Mackriell 21-14 in the semi-finals after edging out Poole Park’s Penny Cresswell 21-18 in the last eight.
She had opened her challenge with a 21-15 win over Elain Amery (Willerton, Somerset).
Oxford City & County’s Katherine Hawes bowed out of the National Singles Championship with a 21-17 defeat by Rosemary Biggs (Kings Langley, Hertfordshire) in the second round.
She had opened up with a thrilling 21-20 victory over Sue Hugill (Richmond, Yorkshire) in round one where Banbury Central’s Stella Amos crashed out 21-1 to Sue Davies (Broadway, Worcestershire).
Davies also ended the challenge of Oxford City & County’s Myra Lewis 21-16 in the National 55 & Over Singles quarter-finals.
Lewis had defeated Shan Maylin (Southey, Surrey) 21-19 in round two after opening up with a 21-14 win over Moira Parsons (Welford-on-Avon, Warwickshire).
Meanwhile, Didcot will entertain Banbury Central in the National Top Club Competition second round.
In the first round, Didcot edged past Lee-on-the-Solent 72-71, while Banbury Central beat Princes Risborough 82-60.
