THIS year’s Carp League 2012 series got off to a flying start at an in-form Rissington where 11 of the 19 anglers recorded weights of more than 100lb.

Andy Wiffen (Bio-Source) led them home with 164.8.0 of carp to 8lb on the pole at 5m and luncheon meat over pellet.

Martin Robinson (Masons) was not far behind with 145.8.0 on the pole, alternating his margin swims and catching carp to 10lb on maggot Two ounces behind was Mick Lane (Swindon) with 143.8.0, again carp on sweetcorn over a bed of pelle.

The next match is at Tunnel Barn Farm on May 20.

Masons AC’s Points League also got under way at Jack’s Pond, Didcot.

It proved a difficult venue for the 11 taking part, with eight of them drawing a blank.

Just three fish were enough to take the verdict, although they were all reasonably sized carp with one weighing in at 14.3.0 in Gary Pether’s winning total of 32.7.0. He used zig rigs six feet off the bottom, with pop-up boilies.

Second was Phil Light, who alternated between maggots and luncheon meat on the waggler close in for three carp worth 25.14.0. Third with a bream of 4.9.0 was Nick Newitt.

The third Anne Malone Memorial match was fished by 16 at Stable Lake.

Stephen Malone took top spot with 94.8.0 of carp on method feeder with pellet.

Harry Oliver (Predator) also used method feeder and pellet for 55.8.0 and second place, followed by Dave Clarke (Predator) with 38.0.0 on pole.
