Oxfordshire's Premier side went down 25-15 on points to Hampshire in Group 4 of the English Short Mat Bowling Association Inter County Championship at Wallingford – despite coming out on top 167-160 on shots.
Oxon’s David Hancock, last season’s national under 18 runner-up, beat Jason McLean 22-3 to provide the hosts’ highlight of the pre-lunch session, which ended with Hampshire leading 10-6.
Two triples wins and a fours success weren’t enough to turn the tide for Oxon in the afternoon session as Hampshire again took the points 10-6 to secure victory.
Oxfordshire A drew 20-20 with Gloucestershire in Group 2 at Berkeley, even though they went down 174-163 on shots.
