A SIDE skipped by AJ Brown triumphed in the Oxfordshire qualifying round of the English Short Mat Bowling Association National Fours competition at the Regal Centre, Wallingford.
Brown’s rink of Geoff Cross, Tim Cross and Gareth Davies needed an extra end to beat Dennis Wilson’s four of David Hancock, Norman Cottrell and Tom Clough 11-10 in the final.
In the semi-finals, Brown saw off Paul Skidmore’s four of Mick Alder, Helen Skidmore and Alan Foster 13-10, while Wilson edged past Adam Dickson’s quartet of Eric Hasker, Ted Mills and Chris Hasker 12-11.
The third place play-off saw Dickson pip Skidmore 9-8 on an extra end.
The national fours finals take place at Kempston IBC, Bedford, on Saturday, March 31, with the number of places Oxfordshire will have still to be decided.
