GREYHOUNDS: It's triple delight for owner Clay

Owner Paul Clay had three reasons to celebrate as he picked up three trophies with three different trainers at Oxford Owners’ Association meeting.

He scored with Milton Bradley (Tony Magnasco), Crown Simba (Paddy Curtin) and Fiery Ceilidh (Nick Colton).

Other awards were Hillcross Isis and Meghans Teddy for wins in a row and Vieris Trouble, Smooth Henry, Hillcross Holly, Fox and Hounds, and Saving Tyrone (still missing after being stolen from its kennels near Didcot last year).

All won three races in succession.

Meanwhile, local hopefuls were out of luck at the Greyhound ‘Oscars’ at the Midland Greyhound ball.

There was no joy for Oxford’s champion trainer Michael Peterson or last year’s Kennelhand of the Year, Karen Shepherd.

And Jolly Poacher, an impressive winner of three open competitions at Sandy Lane, was narrowly beaten for the Midland Greyhound of the Year award.

Pauline and Paul Clay are organising another Oxford Retired Greyhound Trust charity night at the Wheatsheaf in Chinnor in the summer.

It follows last year’s event which proved to be a great success.

When you consider a representative of the Retired Greyhound Trust stated one of Michael Peterson’s dogs was ‘the worst **** (health wise) we’ve ever picked up from any stadium and in actual fact he (Peterson) should be reported to the RSPCA’ it seems only right the trainer did not receive an award.
