Bicester's talented welterweight Dazza Usher boosted his prospects for next year's Senior ABA Championships with notable victory against a highly-rated Armenian in London.
The 25-year-old personal fitness instructor, who is a member of Oxford Boxing Academy, won on points against Ben Zarakani in a dinner show at the Barbican.
The only boxer representing the Home Counties, Usher nowfighting at the reinstated 67kg welterweight division, used his nimble footwork and hand speed to outwit his opponent, scoring with variety of two-hand combinations.
Zarakani, famous for being a puncher, became frustrated as he was unable to pin Usher up against the ropes.
After four rounds of an exciting and one-sided contest, Usher was a comfortable winner.
Usher said: “I needed to finish 2009 with a victory over a rated boxer.
“ I will be contesting for the ABA Championships in March and this tells me that I am ready.”
The show at this iconic venue, famous for state functions and televised concerts, was organised by Har-ingey Police and Community Boxing Club.
