Charlie Morlock is on the move from his Kingston Lisle yard, near Wantage, to Lambourn.

The 46-year-old trainer is due to leave Raceyard Cottage Stables on July 1 and take his 20-25-strong team to Frenchman’s Lodge Stables, which have been occupied by Jean-Rene Auvray, who is moving to Wiltshire.

Morlock, who has been at the stables for 12 years, explained that his lease has expired and the Nash family, who own the yard, have other plans for it.

Formerly an assistant to Nicky Henderson for six seasons in Lambourn, Morlock is more than happy to return to the Berkshire village with the excellent gallops provided by the Jockey Club Estates.

“I wanted to stay in and around the area for personal reasons as much as anything else, and I jumped at the chance,” he said.

“Gallops-wise the facilities are second to none.”

And Morlock, whose best horse was the mare Native Charm, is hoping the move will boost his fortunes.

“From my point of view the snowball got a little bit stuck and needs to get going again,” he added.
