The Carp League 2009 Series kicked off at Rissington and it fished its head off for the 18 matchmen who turned out.

In first place with a winning 145.12.0 was Predator’s Matt Ryman, who fished paste at eight metres and landed 50 carp.

Fishing maggot tight to the edge at ten metres, Gary Knight put 134.3.0 of carp on the scales for second place.

Derek Hammond (Banbury Gunsmiths Garbolino) finished third with 110.8.0.

He caught his fish all over the place and tried several baits including paste, corn and meat.

The last match in the Anne Malone Memorial Series was fished by 18 on a beautiful spring day at Stable Lake, Kirtlington.

The fishing proved hard work despite the conditions, and it was Roger Malone who finished this series with a winning 38.12.0 of carp taken on the method, feeder and meat cast over to the island.

Also targeting the island with the method but using corn, John Fisher weighed in 30.6.0 of carp worth second place.

John Spencer fished the pole at 15 metres with maggot to finish third with 24.8.0.

The overall winner of the series was Paul Jackman (Predator) and the splendid sum of £900 was raised for Sobell House.

The North Oxford club fixture fished last Sunday by 12 on the Oxford Canal at King’s Bridge was a match of two halves.

The stretch by the rushes end fished well with the first five anglers pegged there, while the brambles and mile stone just did not fish.

With six bites producing sixchub, Jason Bean was the clear winner with 21.0.0.

He fed chopped worm tight over and fished whole worm on the hook.

Ian Fisher fed liquidised bread and punch, weighing in some small roach and skimmers for a second-placed 3.4.0.

Sat on peg one outside the bungalow was Henry Clarke, who started off on punch under his feet until the boats came through and then went over with the chop.

He weighed in a mixed bag for 3.0.0 and third place.

  • Saturday peg fees at Panshill have been reduced from £8 to £5.
