Berinsfield bantamweight Danny Reed blasted his way through to the semi-finals of this year's ABA Novice Junior Championships by stopping Essex rival Richard Haynes inside two rounds.

He was quick to get the measure of his taller Berry Boys ABC opponent, who could not match his determination or accuracy in this Class A 54 kg clash.

After attacking the body, Reed switched upstairs to stun Haynes with seven punch salvo that prompted a standing count towards the end of the opening period.

Another flurry yielded the same outcome when hostilities resumed after the interval and the Essex teenager was forced to dig deep just to survive.

But Haynes could not stop the inevitable, and after he was rocked by a ferocious right hand the referee imposed a third standing count before escorting him to the sanctuary of his corner.

Reed will joined by in the penultimate stage of the competition by Oxford Boxing Academy's Jordan Ottwell, who had a walkover in the Class B 54 kg category.

Blackbird Leys welterweight Mavrik Harding returned to winning ways with a second round stoppage of Haringey rival Dean McCanlie at Finchley.

After an intense first session of toe-to-toe trading, the 17 year-old Oxford boxer upped his workrate and started to scythe through his opponent's guard.

A right cross landed flush on McCanlie's jaw to prompt a standing count and a six-punch barrage eroded the Harringey teenager's remaining resistance to prompt the referee to step in and end the bout.

But Mavrik's younger brother, Brad, was unlucky not to get the verdict at the same show as he was edged out on a debatable split decision by Jack Hale, of the host Finchley gym.
