The first match in the Oxford Carp Winter League kicked off on Sunday at Drayton Leasure with almost a full house of 18 anglers taking part.

Despite windy and wet conditions, the lake fished quite well and the top weight went to Dave Hawkins with a net of carp weighing 56.10.0.

Sitting next to him was Chris Dann, who took second place with 52.4.0. Both anglers fished at 10m with paste.

Predator's Bernie Prior finished third with 44.6.0, using a bomb and three maggots on a size 14 hook to catch ccarp up to 12.14.0.

Beehive AC were literally blown away at Panshill Wood, where a strong wind and rain made life difficult for the 15 anglers.

Indeed, the highlight was the breakfast in the on-site café before the start!

Nigel Waters fished at 4m with pole and maggot to win with 30.4.0, all small carp, followed by Sean Percy with 28.2.0 of small carp to pole and maggot, and Dave Simmons with 25.8.0 on pole and maggot.

Leading teams: Thame, Aylesbury Federation.

Dorchester travelled all the way to the Cherwell on the Marston Ferry Link Road for their Inter-League match.

The 11 anglers found the stretch patchy, but that didn't stop Tony Krason becoming the clear winner with 14.2.0 on groundbait and maggot feeders, catching chub and perch.

Fishing the pole with maggot, Dave Head landed two jack pike, plus some bits, for 8.2.0, followed by Johno Johnson with 4.10.0 of perch on the pole with worm.

The Thames at Chalmore was a little pacy for the five Jolly Anglers fishing their club match, but everyone caught.

Phil Ansell alternated between the cage feeder and liquidised bread, and the maggot feeder to catch 22 roach, plus some chub, for a winning 13.12.0.

In second place was Bill Davies with 7.12.0 of chub and bits, while Martin MacDonald was third with a net of roach, chublets and perch weighing 6.1.0.

Kidlington were on the Thames at Clanfield for the Joan Hill Memorial Trophy, where the nine matchmen found the river with some flow but very little colour.

Four chub and some perch taken on caster on the feeder gave Jim Martin top spot with 13.2.0.

Henry Clarke used a maggot-feeder to catch chub worth 9.5.0 for second, while Alan Middleton had a chub going 4lb, plus some bits, on maggot-feeder for 5.7.0.
