PEARL Sophastienphong and Kayden Sillah won two individual races apiece as City of Oxford’s A team made a strong start to the Milton Keynes and District Junior League.

The squad amassed 203 points at the gala, hosted by the Borough of Harrow, finishing second behind an impressive Ealing side.

Sophastienphong was the pick of the girls team, winning the under 11 backstroke and breaststroke races over 50m.

Sillah also savoured double success, coming out on top in the under 12 boys’ 50m breaststroke and freestyle events.

In the same age group, Lachlan Middleton clinched 50m butterfly gold.

The stroke provided further success for the squad, as Mary Cater and Zofia Conway won the under 12 and under ten girls events respectively.

Juliet Anthony also starred, winning the under 12 girls’ 50m freestyle before being edged out into second in the 50m backstroke.

Medley relay wins came in the form of the under 12 boys and under 11 girls, while the under 12 girls grabbed silver.

Elsewhere, City of Oxford’s B team, who included many swimming in their first gala, finished fourth at Feltham.

The under 12 girls’ team claimed twin successes in the freestyle and medley relays.

Thomas Johnson (50m breaststroke) and David Feng (50m backstroke) were winners for the 12-year-old boys.

In the year below, Qiuen Zhang also triumphed in the 50m breaststroke.

The stand-out performance in the girls’ team came from 12-year-old Mila Burovska, who won the 50m butterfly.
