MAX Whitehall warmed up for the British Junior Championships with a record-breaking performance in Europe.

The 14-year-old Burford School pupil, who will represent England in Prague later this month, caught 72 fish from Lake Gigantica at Saint-Christophe-Dodinicourt in northern France.

His haul, which included a mirror carp weighing 49lb, is the record for one session at this famous venue.

Using the Ronnie rig and a snowman rig, he caught some massive fish, including five weighing more than 40lb.

The fish are so well-known that they have been given names.

The ones he caught were known as Swaleys (41lb), Snooky (41lb), Mr Massive (48lb), Bomber (40lb 8oz) and best of all, The Hammer (49lb).

He then caught a further 15 30-pounders.
