JOSH Peck scored a spectacular touchdown, but Oxford Saints are still waiting for their first win of the season after a tie at Berkshire Renegades.

The visitors, who lost their opening match of the Southern Football Conference Division 1 season a week earlier, twice led before being pegged back to finish at 21-21.

Renegades had impressively won their first fixture and made a strong start in Reading.

From a yard out, Andrew Nielson charged up the middle for a touchdown, with James Treherne kicking the extra point.

Saints hit back to level at 7-7 when Shaun Griffin finished off a long drive and Sam Fielden slotted his kick through the uprights.

Defences were on top for the rest of the half, as Renegades quarterback Dan Storey was tackled by Calvin Holmes, before a combination of Conor Whitehouse and Dickie Penrose stifled another attack.

Saints newcomer Peck showed his talents at the beginning of the third quarter, returning the kick-off to charge in from 90 yards.

Fielden was again on target to put the visitors 14-7 ahead.

The home side hit back quickly to level, in controversial circumstances.

Renegades ran up the middle, but the ball came loose and tumbled into the endzone.

What appeared to be a fumble recovered by Oxford was declared a touchdown to Berkshire after the officials consulted.

Ben Raper was awarded the score, with Treherne equalising.

It was a similar story in the fourth corner, with Saints edging ahead, only to see their advantage wiped out.

Griffin completed a solid drive to sprint in from ten yards.

Fielden kept up his perfect afternoon to restore the seven-point cushion, but again it did not last long.

Jonny Whitehead broke free up the sideline for a 54-yard touchdown and Treherne equalised for 21-21.

Fielden missed a field goal attempt late on, as the spoils were shared.

Saints’ next game is at Solent Thrashers on May 20.
