NATHAN Douglas bids to reach his third Commonwealth Games final when he competes in the preliminary round of the triple jump during the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The Oxford City AC athlete goes in Group A from 1.30am (BST) in the Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast.

Douglas is hoping to make it third time lucky in his bid for a Commonwealth medal.

The 35-year-old was fourth in Delhi in 2010 and 11th in Glasgow four years later, despite suffering a fracture in his back.

The final takes place on Saturday from 6.15am.

Meanwhile, shooter Matt French was unable to mark his final double trap competition with a medal after missing out on the final earlier this morning.

The 36-year-old, from Oakley, near Aston Rowant, fell short of qualifying by just two clay targets at the Belmont Shooting Centre on the Gold Coast.

In five rounds of 30, a costly third session proved the difference as he shot 24, 28, 21, 29, 28 to post 130.

Scotland’s David McMath went on to claim gold.

French, who won silver in Glasgow four years ago, will now switch to skeet, due to double trap being removed from the Olympic programme.
