JOHN Beesley scooped the the £540 first prize when 21 anglers contested the three-day Easter Festival on Rolfs Lake at Wheatley.

The Drennan Oxford matchman claimed two section wins and second place for an impressive total of four points.

Drawing a good peg on the first day, he had three carp for 26lb 0oz 0drms on corn, before coming second the next day with two carp for 20.11.0.

On a tense final day, with nine anglers covered by just five points, Beesley drew favoured peg 18.

Although the lake fished hard, he made no mistake with three carp for 20lb and another section win.

Over the three days, he lost just one fish which contributed to his win.

Runner-up on six points was Tony Carter, who caught one carp but also had some skimmer bream and perch, while Andrew Rayment was third.

It was hard work for the six hardy competitors, who fished the first round of Yarnton & District’s Summer League at a bitterly cold Clattercote Reservoir.

Only three fisth were taken.

Jamie Pancott won with a whopping carp, caught on corn, weighing 13.4.0.

Jamie Godfrey was second with a carp of 4.4.0 and Tony Derrick third with a bream of 2.2.0 which fell to a boilie.
