OXFORD skiing sensation Jack Cunningham continued his impressive rise in the winter sports world with a second-place finish in the English Alpine Championships Super-G event

The 15-year-old was racing at under-16 level at the competition in Bormio, Italy, having previously won titles in the event at under-14 category.

The 22nd edition of the Championships feature the next generation of English alpine stars in the same week many of us are keeping an eye on the senior stars competing in PyeongChang.

And Cunningham could appear at the Winter Olympic Games in future given the fact that, despite the silver medal, the youngster is still targeting further improvement and displaying his winning mentality.

“I’ve been pretty disappointed the last few days with my skiing,” he said.

“It hasn’t been where it is normally which is a bit annoying but I guess there’s plenty of things to take from it.

“I’m struggling to put my finger on what’s going wrong at the moment, it used to be where I was placing my head, that was my main issue but at the moment I think it’s just getting the line right.

“I’m happy to be on the podium but there’s still a lot more to improve on.

“My season’s going well in general, I’m making some good progressions.”

Cunningham, who races for Team Evolution, finished with a time of 48.98 seconds in last week’s event, sponsored by Rossignol, and was beaten by teammate Robert Holmes who took top spot.

Meanwhile Oxford youngster Adrian Yung finished 11th in the Under-14s super-G.
