STEVE Townsend gained his second successive Angling Trust Oxford Winter League win in the second round on the Medley, Channel and Folly sections of the Thames.

Four of the top five were pegged on the little used section of the channel above Osney Bridge.

Townsend (Drennan Oxford Aqua) had quality roach and perch for a winning weight of 26lb 5oz 0drms.

Gary Barclay (Drennan Oxford Blue) was second with 22.0.0, just beating clubmate Tony Hobbs, who had 21.13.0.

Drennan Blue took the team honours on the day.

Dave Scott-Picton won North Oxford AS’s Collier Cup on their Wolfson College stretch of the Cherwell.

Catching quality roach on bread, Scott-Picton recorded a winning weight of 25.0.0.

Maurice Winstone was a distant second with 10.4.0, while Ron Hillier (7.15.0) came third, despite struggling with floating leaves.

A switch in tactics paid dividends for Graham Bradshaw, who won Marston AC FTB’s match upstream of Donnington Bridge.

After spending the first hour on the feeder for bream, he switched to the pole over ground bait and caught roach and perch for a winning weight of 17.0.0.

Gordon Collier was second with 12.10.0, while Antony Tomkins was third on 11.14.0.

In the final of the club’s Knock-out Cup, Mark Ward will take on Gordon Collier.
