OXFORD Drennan Yellow fought off a challenge from Sensas A4 to retain their Oxford Summer League title.

In the sixth and final leg, fished by seven teams of six on the Thames at Medley, Yellow won the team contest after filling two of the top three positions.

Steve Townsend finished second with a haul of roach and perch, weighing 21lb 14oz 0drms.

One place behind was clubmate Mick Denton, who caught perch on the pole for 17.7.0.

The top man on the day was Sensas A4’s John Taylor with 29.14.0.

But such was the lack of support from his colleagues, that Sensas came only third on the day and finished nine points behind the champions in the final table.

With Colin Perry and Ryan Seymour coming fourth and fifth , Drennan Oxford Blue came second on the day.

Team result: 1 Drennan Oxford Yellow 41pts, 2 Drennan Oxford Blue 40, 3 Sensas A4 35.

Final league positions: 1 Drennan Oxford Yellow 209, 2 Sensas A4 200, 3 Drennan Oxford Blue 188

Individual Trophy winner: D Johnson (Sensas A4) 36pts.

Pete Clarke won the Pete Jackson Memorial Match for the fourth time in six years at Sandford.

The contest, sponsored by Ace Tackle & Bait along with Drennan, was a sell-out.

Clarke triumphed with 15.6.0 of roach caught on hemp. He finished just ahead of Paul Hitchman 14.1.0, while Alan Gee had to settle for third on 13.9.0 after losing a bream right by the net.

The match raised £400 for Cancer Research and the British Heart Foundation.

Jason Bean finished on top when North Oxford AS and Kidlington AS contested the Roach Cup on the Cherwell at Marston Ferry Road.

The Kidlington angler weighed in 10.11.8 of mainly roach on maggot over ground bait.

Dave Scott-Picton (North Oxford) was second with 7.4.0, followed by Henry Clarke (Kidlington) with 6.15.0.

Kevin Jeacock caught 67.10.0 of carp and skimmers to win Beehive AC’s Top Tackle Pairs Match on Lower Court.

Bob Hopgood was second with 54.l.0.0 carp to pole and corn, while Richard Mott came third with 48.9.0.

Jeacock and Paul Smith won the pairs with a combined weight of 108.0.0.

It was hard going for the nine anglers in Masons’ match on the Thames at Donnington.

Jason Smith came out on top, catching skimmers, perch and one tench for 7.1.0. Second was Andy Webb with 5.10.0, followed by Dave Pether on 4.14.0.
