OXFORD’S Matt Chapman is hoping for a trouble-free race weekend when he takes to Brands Hatch in the British GT Championship.

The teenager, along with teammate Jake Giddings, has endured misfortune throughout the season, including contracting food poisoning, and being unable to take to the grid for the second race at Spa last time out due to a wheel problem.

Chapman, whose highest finish has been ninth at Oulton Park, also suffered power and driveshaft issues at Snetterton and Silverstone respectively.

He said: “It’s been a tough season for sure, but we know without the issues we’ve experienced with the car we actually have a competitive package.

“Obviously, it’s pretty frustrating we haven’t been able to show the true potential and take the results we’ve been capable of.”

l CHIPPING Norton’s Sean Walkinshaw is eyeing silverware as the Super GT Championship returns at Fuji Speedway, Japan, this weekend.

The Oxon driver and teammate Shinichi Takagi were denied a podium at Sportsland Sugo a week ago following a collision.

Walkinshaw said: “We’re confident we can mount a strong challenge at Fuji.”

l DOMINIC Paul claimed a double in the GT Cup at Oulton Park for Wallingford-based Spy Motorsport.

His Ginetta G55 teammate Brent Millage took third and second.

l MARSTON’S grasstrack sidecar racer Marc Dibsdall has qualified for next month’s British Masters Championship.
