ROACH and bream came up trumps for Drennan Oxford Yellow matchman Carl Eland as he won the second round of the Oxford Summer League, fished by eight teams of six on the Thames at Medley and Folly.

Despite the river being gin clear with little flow, there were plenty of roach showing.

Eland, drawn on the form peg at Medley, made the most of it with three bream on the open feeder and a brilliant net of roach for winning weight of 33lb 4oz 0 drms.

Martin Kirk (Devizes MG) was second with 18.2.0, while Isis’s Dick Ashby, drawn on the green bank at Medley, had mainly roach on 13m pole and caster over hemp and caster feed for third place with 17.6.0.

Devizes MG won the team event with 38 points, followed by Drennan Oxford Yellow on 35 and Drennan Oxford Blue 34.

League standings: 1 Drennan Oxford Yellow 67pts, 2 Drennan Oxford Blue 63, 3 Sensas Reading 58.
