SAM Armstrong and James Walter scored two touchdowns each to steer Oxford Saints to a comprehensive 33-14 win against Solent Thrashers.

Tony Glover also crossed at Tilsley Park, giving Saints the perfect response following two successive defeats to Southern Conference Central Division 1 leaders Sussex Thunder.

Strong running from Glover late in the first quarter laid the platform for Saints to open the scoring.

Walter finished off the drive with a pass to tight end Armstrong, who raced in from 16 yards.

Kicker Sam Fielden, making his first appearance of the season following an injury, added the extra point.

Saints doubled their advantage to 14-0 midway through the second quarter.

Glover was again involved and this time he was on hand to charge over from close range after Armstrong was tackled just short of the line.

Fielden was again on target, although his third effort was blocked following Armstrong’s second touchdown late in the quarter.

Starting the second half 20-0 ahead, Saints turned the screw on their opponents late in the third quarter.

Walter provided the game’s highlight with a powerful weaving run from 45 yards.

Saints continued to press, but Solent finally got on the board in some style when Dayle Greenfield burst through a gap and ran almost the length of the field.

William Elgeti was on target with the extra point, reducing the arrears to 26-7.

Saints struck back on their next drive through Walter, who this time had a simpler task to crash over from four yards.

Fielden added another point, but Solent had the final word, with Elgeti adding a kick to Adam Bowley’s touchdown.
