CARL Davis won gold as the 2017 European Taekwon-Do Championships proved a successful event for local competitiors.
The Wantage instructor triumphed in the 4th Dan pattern, and also won bronze in the team special technique event, held at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
Didcot’s Kirsty Miller narrowly lost her 4th Dan pattern final against Bulgaria’s world champion Albena Sitnilska, ending up with a silver medal.
Miller also led the England ladies team to bronze in sparring, pattern, and breaking.
Ricky De Winton, also from Didcot, captained England to bronze in the special technique competition, to go alongside his individual bronze medal in 4th Dan pattern.
Instructor Don Ward (Abingdon), in his first international veteran event, picked up silver and bronze medals.
Chris Dudman (Botley) won bronze in the Junior 3rd Dan pattern, joined by Wantage’s Sean McIntyre in the England junior team.
Charlie and Gabriella Rhodes (Wantage) won their first caps in the junior section, alongside Seren Fullbrook (Didcot), Holly Charles (Wantage) and Paisley Hillier (Botley).
Brothers Russell and Jamie Jones, from Oxford, and Ashley Stuart (Bicester) completed the county’s representatives, but were unfortunate to miss out on the medals in the adult section.
