TWO goals apiece from Ted Bennett and Jack Biggs sped Oxford Hawks to a 5-0 victory at home to basement club Guildford in South League Premier Division 1.

Biggs fired home from the first penalty corner of the game.

Bennett then notched two goals in quick succession just before half time, the first with an unstoppable back hand shot, the second following some fine interplay.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Biggs adding the fourth from another penalty corner.

Guildford rallied briefly, winning a penalty stroke after Drew Blackburn illegally stopped the ball on the line, but keeper Chris Price made a fine save to deny the visitors any consolation.

Several good chances were missed,before Alex Williams finished off an excellent move to complete the scoring.

Oxford’s promotion hopes in Regional Division 1 were dashed when they lost 1-0 at home to Maidenhead.

Oxford Hawks 2nd were involved in an extraordinary game s they lost 7-5 away to Newbury & Thatcham.

Matt Janes scored twice for Hawks, whose other goals came from Dan Andrews, Kyle Barnes, and Tom Lawson.Witney were in seventh heaven after clinching the Middlesex, Berks Bucks & Oxon Division 1 title with a 7-1 victory against Newbury & Thatcham 2nd.

Rory Heaslip scored with two drag flicks, while Witney’s other goals came from Ben Moss, Tim Chilvers, Harry Harbage, Jacob Deacon and Justin Peel.

The result means a return to Regional League hockey for Witney next season

l THERE was disappointment for Oxford Hawks Ladies as they suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat at home to Swansea in the Investec Western Conference.

Annabelle Denly and Lucy Stewart scored for Hawks, but the goals proved in vain.

Sunny Ricketts continued her bright run of form with a four-timer as Witney hammered Oxford Hawks 2nd 6-2 in Division 3A of the South Clubs League.

Ricketts gave Witney an early 2-0 lead, but Claire Werlinger pulled a goal back for Hawks before half-time.

Werlinger scored again after the break to make it 2-2, before Ricketts restored Witney’s lead.

The key moment came when Hawks missed a penalty flick.

Further goals from Ellie Kearney, Ricketts and Hayley Dobson sealed Witney’s comfortable win.
