DRENNAN Oxford completed a successful season in memorable style by coming third in the Angling Trust National Winter League final at Peterborough.

A total of 35 teams qualified for the final on the Fen Drains and Decoy Lakes.

And Drennan Oxford, winners of the Oxford League produced a brilliant result to collect prize money of £1,250.

The only teams to beat them contained international and full-time anglers.

Top performer from the Oxford team was captain Mick Denton, who won his section on Decoy Lakes with a weight of 39kg 450grm of carp.

Drennan have also provided team and individual winners in the Turner 400, were first and second in the Thames Championship and came third in Division 2 of the Angling Trust National Championships in an impressive season.

Final result: 1 Drennan Barnsley 41pts, 2 Starlets 43, 3 Drennan Oxford 54.

Five bream helped Gerald Perks win Littlemore AS’s Thames Shield, fished by 13 anglers on a rising River Thames at Medley.

He won with a catch of 18lb 3oz 0drms.

Brian Hutchings, who lost four bream which cost him the match, had to settle for second on 13.15.0. Chris Webb was third with 10.13.0.

Dave Pether led the field when 13 North Oxford AS members contested the Secretary’s Invitation Trophy on the Oxford Canal at Elizabeth Jennings Way.

Pether won with 8.1.0 of skimmers and perch on bread and worm. Runner-up was Dave Scott-Picton who weighed-in 5.12.0.

Wayne Rudman was third with 4.4.0.
