OXFORD Hawks were made to toil before beating visitors Horsham 2-0 for their first win of 2017.

The victory keeps Hawks fifth in South League Premier Division 1.

The hosts had to wait 20 minutes before Dan Rhodes scored the goal that their early dominance deserved.

Hawks’ rearguard was solid, with goalkeeper Chris Price comfortably dealing with anything that came his way.

The home side’s control continued in the second half and they doubled their lead through Alex Williams, who coolly netted after a penetrating run into the circle.

Oxford came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Marlow to secure their fourth successive victory in Regional Division 1

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, Oxford regrouped and dug deep in a very feisty encounter.

Sean Cox levelled the scores, converting a penalty flick.

Dan Bleach scored a late winner from close range to keep them in fourth spot.

Meanwhile, Oxford been drawn away to high-flying Norwich in the quarter-finals of the England HA Trophy on February 26.

Witney did their goal difference a power of good with an amazing 16-0 win at home to hapless South Bekshire 2nd in Middlesex Berks, Bucks & Oxon 1.

Witney went into the break 7-0 up and hungry for more, adding a further nine after the break.

Rory Heaslip led the way with five goals, while there were hat-tricks for Ben Wells, Jacob Deacon and Dan Wallis.

The scoring was completed by Ben Moss and Ryan Fitz-John.

l IT was a day of frustration for Oxford Hawks Ladies, who went down 2-0 at home to Gloucester City in Investec Conference West.

The visitors took a 2-0 interval lead, thanks to a breakaway goal and a deflected effort.

Coach Andy Clark’s team talk refocused the efforts and Hawks came out strongly in the second half

With Sophie Shakespeare playing a leading role, they piled on the pressure, forcing 12 short corners.

But the Gloucester keeper saved everything as Hawks somehow failed to score.

Christy Barnard scored a second-half hat-trick as Oxford Ladies came from behind to win 4-2 at home to Havant in South Clubs League Division 2.

Oxford fell behind, but they equalised when Kim Warman drove high into the net from Victoria Sauven’s pass.

The second half belonged to Barnard, who capitalised on assists from Jess Upjohn, Amy Litchfield and Jen Johnson to seal the points for the hosts.

Havant replied late on.
