KATHY Hawes showed her experience as she finished runner-up in the EIBA Champion of Champions tournament held at Hayling Island.
The England international, from Oxford, beat some tough competition before losing to reigning world champion Katherine Rednall in the final.
A regulation first round 21-14 win over Taunton’s Chenda Harris was followed by a roller-coaster ride against Harrow’s Pat Kirk.
Hawes led 14-13, before Kirk hit an inspired spell taking seven shots to stand just one away from victory at 20-14.
But a mixture of superb drawing and running bowls saw Hawes change the momentum around to win 21-20.
A poor start in the semi-final saw Hawes 8-0 down against fellow international Susan Kearsley before her grit and determination gave her a hard-fought 21-19 victory.
In the final, defending champion Rednall produced the key shots to win 21-10.
