OXFORD University were beaten by arch rivals Cambridge for the first time since 2009 in the annual Varsity match at Twickenham.

The Dark Blues’ long winning run was finally ended with a narrow 23-18 defeat.

Oxford conceded their first tries in two years to Cambridge to trail by ten points with five minutes to go, before Ed David crossed to reignite some hope.

But they ran out of time to find the crucial final score and had to watch as Cambridge lifted the trophy which had been theirs for the last six years.
