PROMOTION to Sky Bet League One was sealed for Oxford United with a 3-0 home victory over Wycombe Wanderers on the final day of the season.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock in a tense first-half at a sold-out Kassam Stadium, but the U’s ran away with it after the break.

Chey Dunkley opened the scoring before Chris Maguire added a second from the penalty spot, with Callum O’Dowda starting the celebrations early in stoppage time.

The victory ensured second place in the League Two table for United, who returned to the third tier of English football for the first time since 2001.

Michael Appleton’s side finished the season with 86 points from 46 games, scoring 84 goals and conceding 41 – both the best totals in the division.

North Leigh parted ways with manager Mark Gee after 18 years.

Gee, along with assistant Terry Merriman, stepped down due to work commitments, having won three Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division titles, two Oxfordshire Senior Cups and promotion to the Southern League.

He was replaced by ex-Cheltenham Town defender John Brough, fresh from his title-winning success at Cinderford Town.
