OXFORD United caused a major upset in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup after toppling Premier League Swansea City.

A sell-out crowd of 11,673 packed into the Kassam Stadium to see the U’s make headlines.

Few would have predicted an upset when Jefferson Montero put the visitors ahead.

But United levelled before half-time thanks to a Liam Sercombe penalty.

A quickfire double from Kemar Roofe gave Oxford a two-goal cushion and although Bafetimbi Gomis pulled one back for the Swans soon after, the Sky Bet League Two side comfortably held them at bay to seal a memorable win.

Roofe was at it again just days later as Oxford upset League One Millwall 2-0 in the first leg of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final.

But their FA Cup run was ended at the end of the month with a 3-0 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers.

Oxford City also caused an upset in the FA Trophy, knocking out Vanarama National League title challengers Cheltenham Town 3-0 away from home.

The club also unveiled a new 150-seat stand at their Marsh Lane home and collected a club record fee from Eastleigh for Luke Coulson.

Kidlington reached the quarter-finals of the FA Vase for the first time with a narrow 2-1 victory away to Cleethorpes Town in the fifth round.

Horspath Hammers’ cycle speedway ace ace Mark Boaler secured his third British League indoor title.

Boaler just pipped his Horspath teammate Lewis Osborne to the crown.
