A SUPERB display by goalkeeper Jess Hughes was the feature of Oxford Hawks Ladies’ 2-0 victory at home to Isca in the Investec Western Conference.

Hughes made a string of fine saves to see Hawks home.

After a goalless first half, in which Jo Tolson went closest for Hawks, the game opened up.

Kathryn Poulter broke the deadlock after 50 minutes when she was first to a rebound and slotted past the keeper with her reverse stick.

Isca threatened again, but Hughes was in unbeatable form.

In the last minute, after another Hughes save, Hawks broke quickly, and a fine move ended with Sophie Shakespeare firing past the keeper.

Oxford conceded two goals in each half as they went down 4-1 away to Buckingham 2nd in South Clubs League Division 2.

Buckingham took the lead when a shot, blocked by Oxford keeper Emma Henriksen, rebounded to a home forward who scored.

After Buckingham made it 2-0, Oxford responded when a great pass from Emily Madden set up Christy Barnard to pull a goal back.

Although Barnard and Meg Scott went close in the second half, the sharper home forwards struck twice more to seal victory, despite the tireless efforts of Oxford’s Jess Upjohn in midfield.

Second-placed Witney made it eight wins in ten Division 3A games with a 2-1 win at Henley.

On a bouncy pitch, Witney went ahead with a deflected shot from Helen Backhouse, but the hosts levelled.

Witney regained the lead with a brilliant team goal, finished by Sunny Ricketts.

Following a disallowed effort, Witney’s Hayley Dobson was dismissed for dissent, but the visitors held on.
