OXFORD Hawks made it two wins out of two in South League Premier Division 1 with a hard-fought 2-1 success at Milton Keynes.

Despite never getting into top gear, Hawks took a 1-0 interval lead thanks to Jack Biggs’s conversion of a penalty corner midway through the first half.

The hosts upped their game after the break and equalised from a second-phase penalty corner play.

However, Hawks stuck to their guns and scored the winning goal midway through the half, Kyle Barnes eventually forcing the ball over the line after a game of bagatelle with home defenders and goalkeeper.

Hawks played out the game on the back foot, a yellow card for Dan Rhodes and green cards being shown to first Alex Williams and then Tom Godding, but they held on for victory.

Dan Bleach scored a hat-trick as Oxford won 4-2 victory at Aylesbury in Regional Division 1.

Chris Sewell’s reverse-stick goal helped Oxford into a 4-0 lead, before a late burst from Aylesbury flattered the scoreline.

Witney came from behind to record a resounding 4-1 victory away to newly-promoted Henley 2nd in Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1.

After going 1-0 down, Witney responded to level with a close-range goal from Ben Wells before half-time.

With Henley tiring and Witney reorganising their formation, the visitors dominated the second half, scoring well-worked goals through Ben Moss, Tom Dobson and Ryan Fitz-John.

Bicester continued their strong start to the season with a 5-1 win at home to a depleted West Hampstead 3rd.

However, the visitors took the lead from a short corner and held their lead for a while as their keeper made several fine saves.

Eventually, Bicester netted through Jonny Reid and Benjamin Kirk to take a 2-1 interval lead.

Second-half strikes from David Delamore-Sutcliffe (2) and the outstanding Will Hartley secured a comfortable victory.
