EDDIE Pepperell will begin his bid for a late-season surge today when the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship begins.

The Abingdon golfer’s place on the European Tour in 2017 is under threat after missing eight cuts in his last 11 events.

It has seen him slip to 115th in the rankings – with only the top 110 earning a card for next season.

Pepperell has spent the last fortnight going back to basics at Frilford Heath and Drayton Park after admitting to feeling “lost” on the course in recent tournaments.

This week’s event is one of only three he is certain of playing in before the end of the season.

The field at the Dunhill Links plays one round each at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews before a cut on Saturday, with the latter course hosting Sunday’s finale.

Pepperell starts at St Andrews at 10.06am today.

The unique event also has a team element, where players are paired with celebrities.

Pepperell’s teammate is Dave Farrell, who is the bassist for American rock band Linkin Park.
