OXFORDSHIRE crews enjoyed success amid a record turnout at the Reading Town Regatta.

Abingdon School impressed with four wins at the event, which was hit by several torrential downpours.

Radley College’s three victories included a dominant success in the J15 eights, while St Edward’s School won the J15 fours.

Wallingford’s junior squad scored a hat-trick of golds.

Their girls J14 quad of Zoe Ray, Catriona Harrison, Leah Gordon, Alice Thorby and cox, Aoife McGurk won comfortably.

James Willcox and Louis Wardle took the J16 novice doubles by half a length, while Georgia Swiatoniowska and Lucy Bird won an even tighter race over two Oxford University lightweight crews in the IM2 doubles.

Abingdon RC and the Oxford University lightweight women recorded three wins apiece, while Oriel College were successful in the IM3 coxed four.

Inayat Khan in the Masters D single was among City of Oxford’s victorious women at the Ironbridge Regatta, where the novice four and IM3 eight also struck.

Abingdon took the women’s masters double.

Falcon RC juniors excelled at the Egham Regatta.

Martin Benfeghoul claimed the J16 single, as did the J15 girls quad of Cicely Lobreglio, May Carter, Emily Tadesse and Molly Chambers, coxed by Becky Hore.

Headington School won silver medals in the J13 and J14 quads at the multi-lane, non-river event at Peterborough.

The B double finished second while Falcon took gold and bronze in the A doubles.
