JONNY McMahon was in explosive form for Bullnose Morris A, smashing off 16 dolls (6-5-5) to inflict a shock 2-1 defeat at New Club A in the Greene King Oxford & District League.

Bullnose won the opening leg at a canter 25-17 in the Premier/Section 1 encounter, but the hosts responded by winning the second 31-26.

The visitors’ four-doll handicap came into play in the decider and they set 35, which proved too much for New Club, who replied with 24.

Premier leaders Gladiators A suffered their first defeat of the season in a 2-1 loss at George A.

The home side set and won the opener 32-24 and raced into a 2-0 lead by sailing past a target of 24 with 30.

Gladiators grabbed a point, taking the third 29-26.

James Morrison (5-6-3) and Kevin Stuart (5-5-4) both hit 14 for George, while Andy Beal (4-4-5) and Kevin Giles (3-5-5) struck 13 for the visitors.

Swan A closed the gap at the top of the table to a point after a 2-1 win at Garsington Sports Club A.

Jon Townsend hit a baker’s dozen (4-4-5) for Swan to remain as the leading doll-scorer with 89.

Six Bells A Quarry’s struggles in the top flight continued as they lost 3-0 to Yarnton British Legion, with Henry Johnson hitting 13 (4-6-3).

Woodman enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Black Prince, thanks to Eddie Edwards (5-3-6) and Ray Grant’s (5-5-4) 14-doll hauls.

In Section 2, Pete Rampton clanged off 14 (4-5-5) in Six Bells D’s 2-1 comeback win over New Club B.

They join Swan B at the top, who beat Six Bells A Kidlington 2-1.

Simon King hit 13 (5-4-4) as Swan clinched the decider 20-19.

Crown boosted their title hopes with a 3-0 win over Red Lion Kidlington.

Dan Sellar bagged himself a six in his haul of 13 (3-4-6) for Crown, while teammate Kenny Adams also hit a six in his dozen dolls.

King & Queen secured a 3-0 victory at Six Bells B Kidlington in Section 3.

The visitors won the opener and Richard Wright clanged off four to take the second, before they wrapped up maximum points.

Lead-off man Clive Tutton top-scored with 14 (6-3-5) as Red Lion A Marston clipped Blackbird’s wings with a 3-0 win in Section 4.

Table toppers Donnington A suffered their second successive defeat, losing 2-1 at the Three Horseshoes.

The took the opener 20-12 but fell apart to lose the next two 22-14 and 19-15.

Phil Jackson clanged off 13 (4-3-6) for the hosts.

Berkshire House are firmly in the mix after a 2-1 win at home to Garsington Sports B.

Democrats and Six Bells B moved to within a point of Section 5 leaders Black Swan after narrow victories.

They beat Rose Hill Club A, who are also on 11 points as a result, and North Oxford Conservative Club 2-1 respectively.

Swan C beat basement boys Red Lion B Marston 2-1.

Rose Hill Club B blew away previous leaders and hosts White Hart A Wolvercote 3-0 and moved level at the top of Division 6.

Vikings Sports D share top spot after beating Pheasant Inn 2-1, but it could easily have been 3-0.

They won the first two legs 21-9, 18-13 but capitulated in the final leg, hitting only eight after being set 13.

Prince of Wales remain rooted at the foot of the table after a 3-0 home defeat to Vikings Sports C.

They lost the opener by one doll 15-14, and the second 18-14.

After the third was drawn 13-13, Prince then went on to lose on three sticks.

Northway Club A are still unbeaten in Section 7 after coming away from Bullnose Morris B with a 2-1 win.

They had to do it the hard way, though, after losing the opener 14-12.

However, Northway responded well to claim the following two legs 14-11, 25-11.
